This is the site where we will update you on Colin's Prostate cancer.
We know you do not always know if you should ask us about Colin and it is not always easy for us to keep you up to date. Therefore we thought this website would be a good idea. Also if you hear of any new treatments please let us know and we can check it out.
Colin and Diana Christmas 2011
Where are we?
We are in the UK in Sussex and plan to stay until April or May when we hope to leave for Africa. Just to keep Colin's vitamin D3 levels up we are going to Cuba for a month in February.
What is Happening now?
Colin's Cancer returned in September. His PSA reading is very low 0.15 which indicates it is at a very low level.
We are hoping that Colin can continue to keep the Cancer under control until some new treatment becomes available that can hold the Cancer permanently.
We are now in a Phase called watchful waiting to see how quickly his PSA rises. This will dictate when Colin will begin to have hormone treatment. Hormone treatment will be injections which last for 3 months each time and are very effective at controlling Prostate Cancer for a period of time.
History
May2007:
Colin was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Prostate cancer. The levels of aggression range from1 to 10 and Colin's is 9. After recovering from the shock of this diagnosis Colin had his Prostate removed and the surgeon hoped all the Cancer had been removed and we could lead a normal life. We still had to keep checking his PSA as any rise would indicate the Cancer had returned.
December 2009:
We returned from a fantastic trip in Northern India to find Colin's cancer had returned. It was at a low level with a PSA 0.2. Colin then had Salvage Radiotherapy. He was given 20 lots of radiotherapy to the prostate area over 5 weeks combined with 6 months of hormone trearment. Colin remained fit and well throughout and we hoped for a cure.He had a 48% chance of a cure.
September 2011:
We were completing a 7 month trip in the Far East and just beginning to believe everything would be fine when Colin's PSA increased and we knew the Cancer had returned and this time there was no cure.
We spent another month in Asia travelling through Kalimantan in Borneo and Java before returning to the UK for tests which confirmed the PSA rise.
We are now waiting to see what happens.
